CommuniGate's SaaS-Based UC Platform Brings VoIP, IM, Mobility Solutions to ISP

Eyeing a technology that's gaining traction despite a slower economy, an Internet service provider in the Bahamas reportedly is using a Mill Valley, California-based company's platform to offer integrated, modular and scalable unified communications solutions to subscribers.

Officials at Cable Bahamas Ltd. say they selected CommuniGate Systems' high density "Pro" platform to deploy the SaaS (News - Alert) solution – dubbed "CoralWave Pronto!" – because it's one of the most dynamic only platforms the company has seen for unified communications.

According to David Burrows, Cable Bahamas' director of marketing, the solution will deliver all the functions a person needs for online living through a single, seamless, integrated interface.

"Imagine a world where, when you log in to check your email, you gain automatic access to your photographs, your contacts, your calendar, your music, your video e-mail, and your instant messages while you drag and drop your photographs into your own personal Web space and blog about your day, all while listening to your music," Burrows said. "This is what our customers will have access to with CoralWave Pronto!. We are very excited to bring this innovation to our subscribers."

It seems the CommuniGate offering met just what the Nassau-based ISP needed: multi-tenancy, high density, scalability, reliability and an intuitive Web 2.0 client.

Consider the upside for CommuniGate's platform.

Researchers estimate that there are about 2.7 billion mobile handsets in use worldwide – that's more than three times the number of PCs, and about double the number of fixed landlines.

And with its inherent cost-savings and "green-friendliness," mobile solutions are emerging in this recession as an attractive cost-saver, as TMCnet has reported, along with telepresence, VoIP and video-based communications.

Officials at CommuniGate offer mobile connectivity to UC for business subscribers – a fertile market. Specifically, CommuniGate Pro is designed help providers deliver fixed-mobile convergence solutions for UC, attract new business subscribers, generate subscriber loyalty with what officials there call "sticky applications," and effectively compete with free services, such asGoogle ( News - Alert).

Here's how company officials diagram CommuniGate Pro's role:

In this case, Cable Bahamas built value-added services on the CommuniGate Pro Unified Communications (News - Alert) platform, an SaaS delivery platform. The client user interface CoralWave Pronto! adopted CoralWave's branding and delivers a single sign-in and interface for all forms of communications, from e-mail to presence, IM, VoIP, rich media and mobility.

According to Jon R. Doyle, vice president of business development at CommuniGate, increasing customer loyalty with value added services is the way network operators need to go.

"Cable Bahamas puts itself in a perfect position to remain the leading provider in the Bahamas by reducing churn rates and placing value on top of its access products," said Doyle, who will be participating in two sessions – "Unified Communications Shootout" and "Hosted UC Alternatives" – at the Internet Telephony Conference & Expo in Miami next week.
